Story of the Year - Anthem of our dying day

It’s been quite some time since I’ve been here… Studying and life kept me busy. The year had started turbulently with a lot of trouble but it seems to have evolved to a good one at last (so far)!

This song reminds me of the time when I was 16/17. I got to know this band from a friend at school who was sitting next to me in maths class. We used to listen to music during the lessons together, among others to the Need for Speed: Underground soundtrack. SOTY featured with “And the hero will drown”. I got their debut album. It became one of my favourites and it still is after almost 9 years.

Whenever I listen to “Anthem of our dying day” I have to think back to a student exchange to Hungary together with Italy and the Netherlands. During the whole bus drive to Szeged, Hungary I’ve been listening to SOTY’s “Page avenue” - that were about 16 or 18 hours - again and again. Even when I slept the music kept playing (that means lots of batteries for the disc-man back then!!!). We were driving through Vienna at night. It was so beautiful with all the lights on and everybody on the bus fast asleep. But what I really think if is the ride on the motorway when I woke up from time to time and “Anthem of our dying day” was playing. I saw all the city lights burning red in the black of the night. It was an uplifting feeling. Ever since I listen to this song when driving anywhere for holidays at night :D The feeling always stayed the same.

The stars will cry
The blackest tears tonight
And this is the moment that I live for
I can smell the ocean air
And here I am
Pouring my heart onto these rooftops
Just a ghost to the world
That’s exactly…
Exactly what I need

From up here the city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire
And I’m here to sing this anthem
Of our dying day

For a second I wish the tide
Would swallow every inch of this city
As you gasp for air tonight
I’d scream this song right in your face
If you were here
I swear I won’t miss a beat
Cause I never
Never have before

From up here the city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire
And I’m here to sing this anthem
Of our dying day

Of our dying day
Of our dying day
Of our dying!!!

For a second I wish the tide
Would swallow every inch of this city
And you gasp for air tonight!!

From up here the city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire
And I’m here to sing this anthem
Of our dying day
From up here the city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire
And I’m here to sing this anthem
Of our dying day
From up here the city lights burn
Like a thousand miles of fire
And I’m here to sing this anthem
Of our dying day

Our dying day
Of our dying

Aaaand the last of my TOP 3 bands that I fell in love with around 1999 and cherished ever since!

Jimmy Eat World

It all began with this song: Lucky Denver Mint! Whenever somebody asks me which my favourite band is I tend to say Jimmy Eat World. But these are hard times for them ;) soooo much good music! After having worshipped their music for ~12 years (half of my life after all!!!) I finally saw them on stage 3 times during the last 14 months! Always a pleasure <3 I can always listen to every single album they EVER made. It never gets boring! Hard to say which one is my favourite, though. Probably Bleed American? Dunno…

Another one of my TOP 3 bands that I fell in love with around 1999 and cherished ever since!

Blink 182

Although some people make fun of people that still listen to this “college style punk music” I keep on loving them! It was so much fun in the 7th grade when they released their Enema of the State album! I can still remember how I was searching for the CD in the store and first didn’t find it because I was looking for Blink 182 written in very big letters on the cover :D

I really hope to finally see them live this year, cause last year they suddenly cancelled their gig at the Hurricane Festival. Really sad story :( Nevertheless: it was a cool festival! Could just have been less rainy…

BTW: brilliant drummer!!!

Coming to the TOP 3 bands that I fell in love with around 1999 and cherished ever since!

Linkin Park

Hybrid Theory is still their best album I think! Although they are one of my favourite bands I lost track of them a little bit during the last 3 years… So much good music has come up!!!

Machine Head - From this day

This is also one of the songs that was played on fridays in the Music Theater. Even had a punching bag back then… Wowowo!

Slipknot - Wait and bleed

That was a special time, I can tell. Remember the saturdays with my neck hurting VERY VERY badly! This wasn’t in ‘99 but a little later when I was 16…bloody young!!!

“I’ve felt the hate rise up in me
kneel down and clear the stone of leaves
I wander out where you can’t see
Inside my shell I wait and bleed”
